Universal's First European Theme Park Gets Official Name and $10 Billion Price Tag

Universal has officially named its first European theme park and resort "Universal United Kingdom Resort," with a planned opening in 2031 near Bedford, England. Comcast has committed over $8 billion to the project, while the UK government is contributing $1.7 billion, bringing the total investment to $10 billion, according to Variety. The 476-acre site, purchased in 2023, received government approval in December. Comcast NBCUniversal confirmed plans to invest £6 billion ($8.1 billion) in the Bedfordshire park, which will span 476 acres and aims to attract 8.5 million annual visitors, Deadline reported. Construction is expected to begin soon, with completion targeted for 2031. Comcast will spend £5 billion in the first five years of construction plus an additional £1 billion in capital investment over the first decade of operation.
